1. What are Cookies and Local Storage?
Cookies are small text files saved on your device when you visit a website. In addition to traditional cookies, ChessY Me also uses "Local Storage," which is a similar technology that allows your browser to remember information safely on your device without sending it to our servers constantly.
2. How We Use Them
We use these technologies strictly for essential functionality to provide you with a smooth experience. We use them to:
- Authentication: Keeping you securely logged in via Google Authentication (Firebase) as you navigate between pages.
- User Interface States: Remembering which games you have already reviewed on your Stats dashboard so we can display the "Reviewed" badges accurately.
- Security: Preventing fraudulent activity and protecting your session.
3. Third-Party Services
Our website utilizes Google Firebase for database management and user authentication. Google may set its own essential cookies to ensure secure logins and prevent spam/abuse.
4. Managing Your Preferences
Because the cookies and local storage items we use are strictly necessary for the website to function (e.g., you cannot log in without them), they cannot be disabled within our site. However, you can clear your browser's cookies and local storage at any time through your browser's settings.
Note: Clearing your local storage will log you out of ChessY Me and will reset the "Reviewed" badges on your dashboard.
